Having a strategy to grow your email list is crucial as your list decreases 22.5% every year due to people either moving companies, unsubscribing, or deleting their email address. According to research, more than 90% of adults use email and 74% of teenagers have an email address. With that said, it is clear that email marketing can help you effectively reach any age bracket. Here are some steps you can take to get more people on your mailing list.

Use social media to promote offers that require an email address. When doing offers or giveaways for your business, posting about them on social media is always a must. Next time you do this, require people to send you their email address. Make sure you direct people to a landing page where they can fill in their email address instead of having people message you their email address.

Collect email addresses at trade shows. Never attend a trade show without bringing a bowl for people to put their business cards in or a list for people to write their email address down. Now there is a way to always reach out to prospectives you met there.

Include the registration link to your newsletter when you guest blog. Guest blogging is not only a great way to introduce new people to your business, but you can also use it as an opportunity to display links to your social media channels and your newsletter sign up.

Do giveaways. Everyone loves a good giveaway, and this will become a popular way for you to gain more email addresses.

Attend a networking event and/or host one. Networking events are always a great chance to meet new business people, find new business opportunities, as well as grow your list.

Include a subscribe button on your website. Your website is an extension of your business and is a common place for people to join your email list.

Include the registration link in your email signature. Direct people to a landing page where they can sign up.

How To Increase Email Click Through Rates

Before we dive into on how to increase email click through rates (CTRs), let’s dive into the groundbreaking statistics surrounding email marketing.

*Email is the third most influential source of information for B2B audiences.
*For every dollar you spend on email marketing, you can expect an average return of $38.
*72% of consumers prefer email as their source of business communication.
*3 billion people- half of the world’s population- are expected to utilize email by 2020.

As these statistics show, there are many benefits to utilizing email marketing. Now that we know how useful email is to business, here are four ways to increase email CTRs.

Put a special offer in the subject line. Nailing your subject line is important because if it doesn’t peak subscribers’ interest, they’ll delete your eblast without ever opening it up.  When you extend an offer, you increase people’s interest. Make sure your subject line is teasing and doesn’t give too much away. That’s what the content inside is for.

Include triggered emails. Triggered emails are automation emails in reference to a subscriber’s actions. Triggered emails include thank you emails, welcome emails, anniversary emails, confirmation emails, and the emails you receive when you abandon your shopping cart on an ecommerce site. Triggered emails are beneficial because they are proven to increase conversion rates and improve customers’ experiences.

Add social sharing. If you offer at least three social sharing options, your CTRs increase by 55%. Even if your reader doesn’t want your email’s offer, they may know someone who does whom they can share it with on social.

Get the timing right. Another way you can increase CTS is through researching the best times to send out your newsletters. According to MailChimp, the average optimal time to send out a newsletter is Thursday and the peak time is 10:00 am. Of course, still do your research on your target audience and when they are most likely to check their inboxes.

Digital Coupons – Benefits Businesses

Everyone loves to get a great deal on a product or service.  You know what I like even better?  I love finding a great deal easily.  Digital Coupons provide both – great deals and ease of use!  Is your business using digital coupons?  They should be.

Let’s look at the numbers. . .

  1. Research conducted in October 2013 by eMarketer indicates that more than half of US adult internet users (102.5 million people) will redeem a digital coupon, for either online or offline shopping this year. That number is up 11% over last year!
  2. Digital coupons are a great way to engage the new user because you can provide a direct link to your products or services via the coupon. Digital coupons can translate into more people finding your website and opting to register for your online coupons and email offers!  The number of people who redeem digital coupons is only expected to grow as consumers ditch their paper coupons for the convenience of digital.
  3. This year, more than 28% of people who own a mobile device have redeemed a coupon and according to eMarketer, it is expected that one-third of all smartphone users ages 18 and up (42.1 million people) will use a coupon acquired on a mobile device –via an app, mobile internet, mobile barcode or SMS.

Getting Started offering digital coupons.

  1. There are numerous places to advertise deals online including the #1 online coupon site Retail Me Not.  This easy-to-use site claims the hottest deals, best coupons, and exclusive offers that are available online or emailed directly to members.  They even have an app for smart phones that can alert customers when they are near a good deal!
  2. Google also has an online wallet program that stores your credit and debit cards, offers, loyalty cards, coupons and more. This program aptly named Google Wallet is only one of the ways that Google is promoting online coupons.  Google’s newest way to attract more customers to your business is Google Offers.  Google Offers has created a new way for you to reach potential customers near your business. Using their mobile device, these customers can find your offer and visit your business right away.
  3. The best digital coupon applications out there are Apple’s Passbook® (available on iOS operating system iOS 6 and up) and Android’s version of the same app called PassWallet. These apps come standard on all smartphones running on these operating systems.
